The 103,000 square-foot convention center expansion was designed to reposition the building to bring back lost sporting and entertainment events, as well as capture new convention, meeting, and exhibition events.

Its flexible plan with operable walls separating the exhibition hall from the ballroom allows the building to handle a variety of events from concerts to black tie dinners. In addition, the flat floor exhibition hall was planned to be used in conjunction with the existing arena floor to capture large trade or consumer shows or used independently to serve convention, meeting or small sporting events when the arena has scheduled a larger event. The existing 10,000 seat arena was renovated to upgrade the toilet rooms, concession stands, concourses, and signage, and to add a party suite and the Coliseum Authority Board Room. It was also repainted and reroofed to tie the complex into a cohesive unit.

This project was completed by Kenneth M. Betsch, AIA, while a Managing Principal for Odell Associates, Inc., in association with the local firm of Dunwody, Beeland, and Henderson.
